Where Does the word Cranberry come from?

Fear not; there is a good history here.

It is derived from the term “bere”, which refers to the European cranberry bush (Vaccinium oxycoccos).

The fruit of this plant, known as a “cranberry”, has been traditionally used for its medicinal properties, such as treating urinary tract infections and other conditions such as gout, kidney stones, and arthritis.

Who knows, so take it with a pinch of salt, right!

This drink recipe was used for people with diabetes because it has no sugar or artificial sweeteners. If you need to add sweetness to your beverage, use honey instead of sugar.

Now, of course, take these old remedies with plenty of scepticism.

And no alcohol either.

Cranberries and Vitamin C

Many people love cranberry sauce because it is sweet and tangy at the same time.

Some people like to use raw cranberries, but cooking them will release their natural juices and flavours.

Raw, no thanks!

If you choose to cook the berries, you can microwave them or boil them on the stovetop.

The berries should be cooked for 10 minutes because they take longer than other fruits to become soft enough to eat.

Boil them in a pot or bake them in the oven.

Cranberries are tart fruits, so you should mix them with sweeter fruits like apples or pears to soften their tartness.

By consuming cranberries frequently, either as a drink or a snack, you will be healthy in your body.

Here is hoping!

Hot cranberry juice served with meat dishes is a traditional drink in North America, but it’s also popular in Europe and Asia.

It’s made from berries, full of antioxidants, and has health benefits for runners and athletes.

The essential ingredients of hot cranberry juice include:

  • Cranberries: Fresh or frozen cranberries give the juice its tart flavour. Cranberries are rich in antioxidants similar to resveratrol, and research suggests they help prevent kidney stones and infections. Cranberries also help reduce inflammation by blocking pro-inflammatory cytokines, according to a study published in the “International Journal of Molecular Sciences.”
  • Warm water: The water warms the fruit and adds to the drink’s flavour. Adding warm water also helps release beneficial compounds from the berries. Warm water also causes your stomach to secrete more gastric juices, which aids digestion.
  • Sugar: This ingredient helps bring out the flavour of the cranberries.
  • Cinnamon adds a sweet taste to drinks and may lower blood sugar levels, according to a study published in “Phytotherapy Research.” Cinnamon is also high in antioxidants called anti-inflammatory polyphenols.
